Your little heart is listening!

Music has been very soothing for many things- from calming adults who are dealing with anxiety or depression to helping down students who are cracking head to solve math equations. There’s even a segment of green thumb who believe that correct music can help plants to grow better!

So, if you’re trying to get a smart baby with lots of passion and fanaticism or you want to conceive a baby with his or her passion towards music then you have to learn what is good for the baby when it is just a foetus. Do sound and music really affect a foetus? How does the baby in the womb respond to them?

What is a Foetus?

It is an unborn offspring, particularly an unborn human more than eight weeks after conception. A foetus is also characterized by the presence of all the major body organs, though they are yet to be fully developed and functional.

What foetus can learn through Music?

For sound to make a difference, the foetus needs:

  • Foetus develops auditory system and music helps it to grow more attentive. And we already know that the baby can hear a wide range of sounds within 31 weeks.
  • The foetus has to be able to form memories. One study involved the playing of a certain soap opera tune to mothers-to-be during their pregnancy and new-borns aged 2 to 4 days, became more alert when the tune was played.
  • New-borns remember the vowel sounds and the intonations of the language they hear in the womb. This is an important aspect for language learning process.
  • As per the Indian philosophy of Garbh Sanskar, what the foetus hears can influence the development of that genre of music after birth.
  • Babies who are exposed to music in the womb often show better motor and cognitive skills.
  • They also cry less, suffer less frequently from colic and sleep better.

Tip of Advice- Just enjoy the music for yourself, especially if it helps you de-stress. If it puts you in a happy mood and calms you down, consider the job done. Just don’t expect that it will work miracle to the baby immediately.  After all, what’s good for you is good for the baby!
