It’s a lesser known fact that, Kolkata’s Alipore Correctional Home for Women has a coffee shop that is completely managed by female prisoners. The correctional home authority came up with such an initiative for the women inmates. The coffee shop is a Café Coffee Day franchise and the shop was set up` to make sure that the prisoners earn their own living.
The concept behind this venture was inspired by the open jails in western countries, where the inmates who are jailed for minor crime leave for work in the morning and return back in the evening. “The intention is that when they leave the prison, they can earn their livelihood,” said the official. “If this experiment proves successful, we will set up more such outlets. One of the products which I personally find very good is the mustard oil produced here.”
Well, this is a brilliant way to show make the women financially secure.
