Woman Swallows Coins & Ornaments

Children have a tendency to grab things and put them in their mouth. Sometimes there have been cases of such incidents where the kids have swallowed unwanted objects which had lead to them being rushed into the emergency room. But the tendency is not limited to children it seems! Recently in West Bengal’s Birbhum district doctors removed over 1.5 kg ornaments and coins from the stomach of a woman. The 26-year-old woman is a resident of the village under the Margram police station and she  is mentally unstable as claimed by her mother. The surgery took place in the Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital. After conducting the surgery, the head of the surgery department Siddhartha Biswas said that removed ornaments like chains, nose rings, earrings, bangles, anklets, wrist bands and watches along with a total of 90 coins in the denomination of Rs 5 and Rs 10. The ornaments were mostly of brass and copper. Some gold jewellery was also there. Her mother said,

"My daughter is mentally unsound. For the past few days, she used to throw up every time after having a meal."

We have noticed that ornaments were disappearing. But whenever we questioned her, she started crying.

She further said that they used to keep an eye on her, despite that she swallowed those things and she got the coins from her brother’s shop. She said that her daughter was not well for the past two months. They even took her to private doctors but she was on medication without any results. After that, she was taken to the hospital where the doctors conducted several tests on her before the operation.
