Waste Turned to Artwork

Celebrations mean having fun with your loved ones associated with food and drinks, but the after-effects of the celebrations are catastrophic. Waste products scattered everywhere. We all look and judge but very few of us take the initiative of cleaning them up. These waste products pollute the water bodies thereby harming the marine ecosystem.

A girl in Karnataka’s Mangalore called Megha Mendon used to watch the process of accumulation of the wastes at the ground then washed down the nearby Phalguni River. 23-year-old Megha, an architecture student thought of putting her artistic skills into doing something for the betterment of the mother nature.

Megha started collecting the discarded bottles and instead of painting on a canvas she started painting on the collected bottles. When she saw the initial one was a success she continued painting on the glasses. Alongside painting, she started beautifying the bottles as well. Megha shared this idea with her friends and neighbors. Soon her house filled with the artworks and became quite popular. Her works garnered the attention of a renowned artist as well, who has encouraged and appreciated her creativity.

Megha held a free workshop last year in May, which was attended by 30 people and lasted for five days. It was a great success, Megha preached to upcycle the waste products and make them worthy again. The bottles that were beautified at the workshop were displayed in a public exhibition. She plans to spread awareness and engage more people in her venture of DIY activities.
