The lady in Black- evolution of LBD

“When a little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place”- Andrew Hepburn

From catwalks, to an evening party wear or a weekend event, the little black dress oozes style, elegance, season and age. Before Chanel (a reputed brand) deemed the LBD, the ‘must-have-in-your-wardrobe’ statement, the idea of wearing black dress had a very different meaning. Generally worn for mourning, the black colour represents sadness and despise without a doubt. The first poster of Black dress was painted by John Singer Sargent which showed a woman wearing a sultry, fitted evening black dress. This poster caused controversy as many people have never seen the colour black worn outside of mourning. Now-a-days we won’t even bat an eyelid if we see that same black dress on a cover of any magazine today... oh how time has changed.

The little black dress or in short LBD has always been a staple in life of a woman. No matter if you like to dress up or not you will likely have one LBD hanging in your closet neatly just waiting to be worn for a special event or the 31st night of December.

Why is the LBD such a big deal? Why is it always our go to when everyone fails to impress us? The reason behind such thoughts, there’s no way wearing black can ever go wrong. The LBD has a class of its own. For decades, women have relied on the power of this little, sultry garment to save them from any horrible day.

Vogue- a reputed brand who introduced the LBD came up with some narrow cut knee-length dress which hugs the body and flaunts the curves. Once it was stated as, ‘Frock that the word will wear’, the dress became popular due to its easy fits, complement for all body-type and loved for its simplicity. LBD is the ‘bae’ of our closet, because effortlessly it brings out the best in woman. From changing of women dressing in long, heavy gowns to being simple and easy knee-length dress and walking out of the home for a classy evening, LBD is a head-turner. One can go out wearing star-studded sneakers too.  Straps off the shoulders, and LBD were tightly wrapped around the curves and legs of women like never before and was a huge trend back in 50’s.  In 60's the dresses were shorter with simple style and a touch of freshness. This little beauty will never become old or boring because it defines class and elegance
