“The day we do not pay them, they collect all the money and buy food for themselves,” says Soma Dutta

Today I paid and the thought came instantly in my mind ‘what is so special; is it just that it is Woman’s day?’” she added.

Soma Dutta, (Media Science) lecturer in NSHM and George College and a Woman entrepreneur as well started working as Vocational trainer in a training institute for the orphan kids in South Kolkata.

She travels in public transport and talks to street children a lot. Therefore she faced many incidents with time. Once she saw a kid drawind goddess Kali and she inquired the reason. The child came up with a unique reply, “আমি তো খুব চুরি করি, তাই এই কালী ঠাকুর তখন আমায় বাঁচায়|” (I steal quite often and this is the time when goddess Kali saves me in distress). This reply made Soma Dutta feel in a different way for the street children. She joined the institute to teach the orphan kids, poor or the short learners.

For Soma Dutta, “Any celebration is wonderful, but if the case is, there is respect for women in this day only and for the rest of the year there is hardly any need to pay heed then there is no need. But every celebration has its own boldness and that is definitely good.”
