Sanjukta Dutta’s dream of making Assam Silk famous worldwide has come true. The proud Assamese fashion designer Sanjukta has been honoured with the Best Fashion Designer of 2018 at Dada Saheb Phalke Excellence Award 2018! To achieve great heights she gave up her job in the year 2013 and started working for the silk weaving industries.
The stunning Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu had the privilege of wearing the famous Assamese attire Mekhela Chador designed by Sanjukta on Lakme Fashion week 2016. After walking on the ramp, Bipasha said that Mekhela Chador is better than saree and is easier to wear. Since then Sanjukta has become a well-known fashion designer.
Sanjukta’s started with 3 looms but now through her hard work and determination, the figures have increased to 113 looms and presently she runs 13 factories with 150 weavers.
After winning the prestigious award, she addressed the media saying that her mission was to promote Assam silk and she was exhilarated to win one of the most distinguished awards!
She has also been afforded with the opportunity to display her creation in International Cannes Film Festival 2019. The Hollywood personalities will be seen wearing the latest fashionable costumes made with Assam silk.
