Reproduction of the Women Image in Popular Culture

With our generation imbibed with the popular culture of Game of Thrones in our bones, has anyone ever spared a thought regarding how diversified is the portraiture of the women characters in the drama series? In the world and age exhibited in the show there is a striking and vivid reproduction of the women characters since the time when the show had started in the year 2011, till date when the latest season got released in 2017.

From the very meek and feeble Sansa in the first season who could not stand the slaughter of her pet direwolf, Lady to her courageous witness to The Battle of Bastards – she underwent a massive metamorphosis. Furthermore, within the series - the complexity of characters at multiple levels has also arrived with the advancement of time. While in the first series, what seemingly appeared to the audience to be blatantly flat characters is proved prejudiced soon by the show makers. Each of the women – be it Cersei of House Lannister or Daenyrs of House Targaryen, experience a “reproduction” during the course of the drama. Could anyone have imagined the submissive nature of the juvenile Daenyrs whose life was practically controlled by her pervert brother Viserys to alter to the extremity of her controlling the giant dragons! Astounding, isn’t it?

Interestingly, the transformation of women in Game of Thrones operates on a significant twofold level. On one hand it stands as a stark contrast to the position and associated image of women in earlier times and society of the unrealistic reality (that is, the world of the TV series). While on the other hand, the women themselves revamp and amend in their own formed and found reality.
