Reconstruction More Effective Than Implant in Breast Cancer

"Patient-centered data can best inform patients and clinicians about the potential risks and expected outcomes of breast reconstruction when making a decision between implant-based or autologous breast reconstruction," said Dr. Andrea L. Pusic, chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Brigham Health.

Research has revealed something very interesting. It is seen that patients who have undergone breast reconstruction after a mastectomy has got better results than any kind of implantations.

It is surveyed that 60% of the women prefer reconstruction rather than implantations. Are you aware of the concept of ‘flap’ breast reconstruction? The fat, skin or the muscle from anywhere in the body is used to restructure the breasts. The potential outcomes and the risk factors are informed to the patients so that they can take the due measures beforehand. It is proved that after two years, most of the patients have come up with satisfactory results.

The scientists are demanding further study on this so that they can work on the updated pieces of machinery and constructive factors in this regard.
