Protect your eyes not just your body

Temperatures are dropping, cold winds are blowing and you’re dressed in coats to keep your body warm. But what about the one which you neglect. The important part of your body- Eyes.

While people often think more about staying warm than taking care of their eyes during winter. Retaining moisture and combating dryness during this season can be quite a task. Dryness, itchy eyes, irritation are a common problem during these months. Well, fret not the reason behind such struggle is due to low humidity.

Keeping the doctor’s advice in mind, we have come up with few points to ensure your eyes stay safe and healthy. Humidity drops in winter and they vary both indoor and outdoor. Freezing air sucks moisture from everything, not just your skin even your eyes suffer. Making moisture evaporate from eye faster than normal. To retain moisture drink lots of fluid, keep your body hydrated, wear sunglasses with UV protection if conditions are particularly bright. Avoid wind from getting into your eyes, which is a must. If you have contacts, try wearing a clean one which reduces the risk of infection and itching.

This condition is quite common during spring and winter due to low humidity. Buy eye drops and artificial tears are reliable remedies for dry eyes. If you are not into medicines, then try consuming Omega-3 oils. Fatty acids are associated with a ‘decreased incidence of dry eye syndrome’.

  • Fatty fishes like salmon and tuna
  • Flax seeds
  • Chia seeds
  • Walnuts
  • Palm and soybean oil

If your best efforts don’t improve things this winter, then you need an eye doctor to prescribe a remedy. Just don’t ignore it!
