New initiative by the Police department of India

The Indian government is planning an all-women Police patrol teams that will be launched in eight major cities to combat and prevent crimes like harassment, eve-teasing, and molestation.

Under a special safety programme, the Home Ministry has approved Rs 3,000 crore (approx) to make the city safer for women and children. The All- women police patrol teams will be launched in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Kolkata from 2018-19 to 2020-21. During this programme, smart LED streetlights, one-stop crisis centers, forensic and transit dormitories for women and children will be available.

Well-equipped emergency response vehicles called ‘Abhayam’ vans will be launched to ensure quick and effective response system within these 8 cities. Even woman-helping desk and public panic buttons will be set.
