Indian Army thinks about a permanent commission for women officers

The Indian Army is thinking of a permanent commission for women officers in specialized but non-combat streams. This involves areas like image interpretation, air traffic control, staff selection boards, information technology and legal wing.

In 2009, women officers moved the Supreme Court pursuing a permanent commission. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman consulted few service chiefs about the matter and they were not opposed to granting permanent commission to women, who are Short Service Commission officers.
