The moment Supreme Court of India decriminalized gay sex under section 377, saying sexual orientation is natural and people have no control over it. This much-awaited judgment brought immense pride and respect to the LGBTQ community, and Manabi rejoiced with joy.

The first transgender college principal of Krishnanagar Women’s College in Nadia district, Manabi Bandyopadhyay. She believes that never settle for less, you don’t need anyone’s acceptance. Coming from a middle-class family, it was very difficult to convince her parents that she is a girl from the inside. She managed it and moved on with her life. With time and amendments of law, she thanks the Supreme Court that they have granted such decision but feels that prejudices and stereotypes still follow her and to her community. After teaching for over two decades, Manabi (53) now wants to retire from the post and want a normal routine from life. After facing many cataclysms, Manabi has finally made her mark and we are proud of her!

With the Supreme Court’s judgment for LGBTQ community, it is clear that no one will hurl harsh word against them. Jiyo Woman believes that victory could not be sweeter than this and after several setbacks.
