Gir’s Alpha Female Ruling with Dignity

Life is the biggest teacher; it teaches a lot of lessons through its course. To live life fully one has to leave fear far behind. Rasila Wadher of Gujrat has been in the news for being the first female guard in Sasan Gir forest and courageously rescued over 1000 animals till now. She was appointed in 2007 when the state government first opened the position for women. Rasila was 21-years old then.

Rasila was the only woman in the rescue team when an injured lioness was found in the Dedakadi range, she along with a five-member team went for its rescue. To catch the wounded lioness and put her in a cage is a scary task but Rasila was not scared of that instead she was afraid of the fact that as she was the only female in the team she might get dropped from the team. But luckily that didn’t happen and that task proved her mettle and fearlessness significantly.

Rasila lost her father at a very young age and her mother had to struggle a lot to raise her two children. She graduated in Arts and then worked really hard to get a job and support her family. During another rescue mission in 2014 a panther fell into a well near Jalandhar village Rasila went down the well to tranquilize the big cat in order to get him out. When asked about the incident and whether she was scared of it or not? She replied,

What is there to fear? I have grown up in such a way that I can’t afford to fear.

True that is her and her families’ struggles taught her to be a head-strong fearless woman. Most importantly she likes her work and she has won many awards for work from the Government of Gujrat and Sanctuary Magazine.
