First woman IPS officer in South Pole

An IPS officer of 2002 batch UP cadre became the first IPS DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police successfully completed the South Pole expedition, Aparna Kumar. She travelled 111km on the snow with equipment weighing up to 35 kilograms. Kumar is known for mountaineering and she has conquered top 6 mountain peaks of the 6 continents of the globe. The expedition is all the more special as she suffered from pneumonia before leaving for this expedition. She reached the South Pole on January 13th and unfurled the Indian flag and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police flags. Not only that her prescribed sunglasses broke making her expedition more difficult. Despite adverse health conditions she completed her journey and became an inspiration for all of us. She proved that ‘if there is a will then there is a way’.
