Coolie No.1: That too a woman

There is nothing on Earth that a woman cannot do. A woman has always proved herself and has excelled in every field she has attempted. Over the years, in a patriarchal society as ours, women have played the typical role of a daughter, a wife, a daughter-in-law, a mother. Of late, woman has diversified herself in various other fields as well. She has successfully been an astronaut, a doctor, a civil service professional, a professor, an engineer and have worked at par with men in every possible field.

We have even heard of woman being drivers and conductors. But have you heard a woman being a coolie? Yes, a Coolie. Woman have matched themselves with men even in laborious tasks like that of a coolie.

Let’s get introduced to the first lady coolie of India. Sandhya had lost her husband back in 2016 and has three kids, Sahil 8 years, Harshit 6 years and Payal 4 years to look after. With badge no. 36, Sandhya travels 45kms daily to reach Jabalpur and from there she travels to Katni. After, working as a coolie at the Katni Junction Railway Station she goes back to home after a hectic daily schedule and cooks to feed her children.

If someone ever said or even thought that being a woman is easy then let me tell you, it is NOT! What a woman can do, a man cannot even think of. A woman accepts the war, challenges it and with dignity carries her scars. Wisely quoted “A strong woman is a woman determined to do something others are determined not be done”
