Central Railway’s ground-breaking decision

The Central Railway is making headlines with its latest announcement. Central Railway’s first air-conditioned (AC) suburban local is all set for its maiden run in 2020. It is in the news for another reason! This AC suburban local will be operated by two motor women- Mamtaz Kazi and Manisha Maske. The first AC local was delivered to the Central Railway from Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory just a few days back. By March next year, the zonal railway will receive an AC local and five more in the future. The AC suburban local supposed to run between Thane and Panvel is currently stationed at the railway car shed of Kurla. It will soon go for the trial runs. The central railway’s divisional railway manager, Shalabh Goel said,

“The two motor women will be trained along with 100 other employees to operate the new local, which will be functional by mid-January after trial runs. The staff who were trained on the currently-operational AC local of the Western Railway were taught to operate the software, automatic closing doors and the AC system of the train.”

Goel further revealed they will install CCTV cameras inside the ladies’ compartment and outside the motorman’s cabin to check stone-pelting incidents. Apart from the regular trial runs, new trains will undergo static trials which will be conducted at the car shed only.
