Brought to life the source of Life

Every other person in India is looking up in the sky in the hope of rain so that we can get some respite from the burning heat. Many states in the country are going through a drought and facing a water crisis. Many have lost their lives to heat waves, and the entire nation is trying their best to cope with the situation. Meanwhile, in Vellore Tamil Nadu women have revived the Naganadhi river, which was lifeless for 15-years. Vellore is among the 24 drought-hit regions of Tamil Nadu. This resulted in the supply of enough water for drinking and irrigating their paddy fields.

It required 20000 women and four years to construct 3,500 recharge wells, innumerable boulders to check the flow of rainwater and get the lifeless river to flow again. The recharge wells decide the course of the rainwater into shallow aquifers and as a result, increase the level of groundwater. The revival of the river was approved by the government and the women were registered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act as workers. The women received daily earnings for the work.

People in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand are also facing water shortage and to cope with the situation they are signing water conservation pledges. They are pledging to save at least, one thousand liters of rainwater per person at the time of monsoon. Situations are getting worse day by day, if there is no rain in the country then it will have adverse effects on the economy.
