Cancer is probably the most dreaded disorder in the world. If you are at the final stage then there is no chance of recovering. Maybe there is always hope. Judy Parkins, a 49-year-old engineer who was at the advanced stage of breast cancer was treated successfully at the US National Cancer Institute in Maryland. She was selected for radical therapy where she was treated by a form of immunotherapy, where the patient’s own immune cells are used to find the cancer cells and destroy them.
When Judy was selected for the therapy she was undergoing several rounds of chemotherapies for cancer that developed in her right breast. No therapy proved to be helping and cancer had already spread to her liver and the rest of the body. She was said that she won’t live more than three years.
The doctors studied DNA mutations of the cancer cells and then targeted them. The immune cells from Judy’s body were taken to destroy these cancer cells. Over 80 billion selected immune cells were injected into Judy’s body and the results were miraculous. After 42-weeks of undergoing several tests, she was cancer free and remains so. Although doctors stated that this is groundbreaking, they are not sure if the process would work for every patient.
